Steve is the Managing Director of Seedtech, a company based out of Young NSW that provides the seed industry with high quality processing, enhanced seed treatments and timely distribution to rural agriculture.
He’s worked for the company since it first opened 20 years ago. From a farming background himself, he entered the seed industry from a young age and has worked with a number of seed production companies.
As Managing Director, he’s largely responsible for everything that goes on at Seedtech, along with direct involvement in production and export coordination. The company prides itself on having the latest state of the art equipment to process, enhance, package and distribute quality seed lines and quality grain for export and human consumption.
Steve says the best part about his work is that every job is different.
“While we have competitors in this industry, we also get along extremely well and work together,” he says.
“We’re essentially the start of the food chain, and that in itself is a good thing to be involved in – particularly with how agriculture is now.”
How have advances in technology impacted the way Steve and Seedtech work?
Steve outlines the biggest change is having required labourers in the seed plant to now requiring technicians due to the type of work and the equipment we now use.
“Everything is so much more automated and it’s changed the type of people we employ. In saying that, people have adapted to these skills as time has changed, and we’re all better at understanding this technology.”
What words of wisdom would Steve give to someone just starting out in farming?
“You’re going into a great industry,” he says.
“It’s got a lot of upside, and you’re going to learn every day – learn from your peers.
“The general chat in support and mateship is great in the ag industry. Mates are great to bounce idea off and they’ll always give positive feedback.
What’s been Steve’s experience working with Allied Grain Systems?
Allied Grain Systems have worked with Seedtech over the years to help with grain storage and handling, and Steve says his experience with the team has been great.
“They’re extremely easy to get along with, very professional in the work they do, and nothing is too much hassle.”
